![]() So this is the bit where we put the stuff we think is great but which doesn't necessarily fit into the towels, nappies, bathrobes or shea sections. The latest addition to our range is a selection of belts made from reclaimed fire-hose. The Elvis & Kresse Organisation (EAKO) came up with the concept of re-using discarded fire hose about a year ago. At their base, The Fire House, they are constantly thinking about waste. The instant they met the London Fire Brigade they fell in love with their old hose. They scrubbed away all the soot, grease, and everything else that builds up after 25 years of active duty, and in the process discovered a truly remarkable, truly green textile. After a long search for a local buckle maker willing to use recycled pewter, the belts were born. With a little Imagination and a lot of perspiration Eako creates stylish and unique life-style products by lovingly re-invigorating a seemingly useless waste product. The innovative and pioneering Fire-Hose range is made exclusively from de-commissioned fire brigade hoses which, after a distinguished career fighting fires and saving lives, were otherwise destined for landfill. All of Eako?s products are hand-made and unique. The hose itself is weathered and marked, the ridges and grooves of a long life are self evident and no two reds are the same. Some products may have the details of their extrusion - codes for batches, dates, etc. - and others may bear the name of Angus Duraline, the company that makes the hose. What?s more, in order to thank the London Fire Brigade, 50% of Eako?s profits go back to the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund. To work out which size you need...
